The Sancar Turkish Cultural and Community Center (STCCC) will be hosting Turkish Tales for Children and “Ara Güler & İstanbul: a discussion led by Burak Erdim” at 3:00 pm on Saturday.\n\n\n>>> Turkish Tales for Children will be held from 3:00-4:00 pm and will center around the Nasrettin Hoca stories: “Good Neighbors” and “The Contest and the Candle.” We will host an interactive dramatic reading of the stories in English\, introduce Turkish words and cultural concepts\, and finish by retelling the story through art (the children will draw with crayons). The suggested age group is K-3rd grade. No reading level is required.\n\n\n>>> From 3:00-4:00 in the Sancar Library\, Professor of Architecture Burak Erdim will be leading a discussion on the work of Turkish photojournalist Ara Güler related to İstanbul.\n\n\n>>> At 4:00 pm\, parents and children can enjoy tea and refreshments in the Great Hall.

DESCRIPTION:An Imaginary Trip to Turkiye: Delving into Turkish Stories\n“Acting Out Keloğlan Stories”\nThis is a 1:15 minutes theatre class. Keloğlan is a traditional trickster character. Students will play traditional Turkish games and create scenes based on Keloğlan stories \nFor Ages: 8 – 11\nWorkshops facilitated by Derya Agaoglu\, MFA (Theatre for Youth) \nBorn on 1996 in Ankara- Turkey\, Derya completed her primary and secondary education in TED Ankara College. Between 2014-2018\, she continued her bachelors degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling with a minor in English Language Teaching in TED University. Meanwhile\, she attended night-time theatre conservatories. She graduated with the third highest score of the University and top score of the Faculty. In 2018\, she started her master’s program of Fine Arts Teaching in Educational Sciences Institute of Ankara University where her focus was theatre and drama education. In 2020\, she  began her Master’s of Fine Arts program in Theatre for Youth in University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has recently graduated and will be teaching college-level courses. Derya has been teaching drama to young learners (aged 5 to 11) for the past six years.  She has currently worked as a teaching artist at Lexington Children’s Theatre\, which is one of the most well-known youth theatre in the United States of America. She is especially interested in story drama\, cultural stories and devising theatre. She is a recipient of the NCTC Constance Welsh award and she has presented her work in prestigious conferences. \n
